This project is about designing a “Shop House” in Wan Chai. Typically, a Shop House is a two- or three-story building with a community shop function on the lowest floor and a residential function for the owner on the top level. Shop House is a traditional dwelling concept in Southeast Asia. The Shop House typology is present in both urban and suburban settings and has been modified for various climatic conditions and cultural situations. I am tasked to investigate the significance of the Shop House typology in response to modern economic and societal changes.Heritage Mirage
The Green House is a hydroponic restaurant with a residential house on top. The 4-story building is located on Stone Nullah Lane in Wan Chai, Hong Kong opposite the prominent Blue House. The design of the Green House is generated by taking the historical topography of Wan Chai and the typology of the Blue House. The concept is to put a geometric form onto an organic shape to create a contrast between nature and man-made.
